Liverpool Central Station Redevelopment Targets Enhanced Travel Hub
Liverpool Central Station, recognized as the city’s busiest transport hub, is set for a significant transformation as a specialist design team has been appointed to develop a long-term vision for its redevelopment.

Led by Hawkins/Brown, the newly appointed team will craft a Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) over the coming months. This framework is designed to guide future investment, placemaking, and renewal initiatives surrounding the station, aiming for a radical transformation of its profile within the city center.
The ambitious project seeks to unlock a £5 billion transformation of the 86-acre station and its surrounding area, with the Liverpool City Council leading the framework in collaboration with Platform4, Network Rail, and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. The goal is to create a world-class transport hub that enhances connectivity and drives economic growth across the North West of England.
Plans include seamlessly integrating Liverpool Central with Liverpool Lime Street, mimicking the efficiency of King’s Cross and St Pancras, to better connect Merseyrail services with national rail networks. This integration is expected to improve links to key city areas such as the Knowledge Quarter, Queen Square, and the waterfront, while also fostering new green public spaces and creating mixed-use living, office, and leisure developments.
